About This Experience
At 7:30 a.m., our professional team will pick you up directly from your accommodation in Djerba or Zarzis to begin an unforgettable full-day island tour, showcasing the very best of Djerba’s culture, history, and traditions.
Your adventure starts with a scenic drive across the legendary Roman causeway, the only paved link between the island and the mainland. A brief photo stop is planned, during which your guide will introduce the day’s itinerary and share fascinating insights about the island.
Next, discover Guellala, Djerba’s iconic pottery village and a true symbol of local craftsmanship. Renowned for its ancestral pottery traditions passed down through generations, Guellala offers an authentic glimpse into island life. Your first visit will be the Guellala Museum (Djerba Heritage Museum), where you’ll explore traditional architecture, weddings, daily life, and customs of the Djerbian people. Enjoy at least one hour to explore the museum at a relaxed pace.
To bring tradition to life, you will then visit a local pottery workshop. Watch a master craftsman demonstrate age-old clay-making techniques, and take advantage of free time to browse and purchase handcrafted ceramics directly from the source.
The tour continues to one of Djerba’s most important spiritual landmarks: El Ghriba Synagogue, the oldest Jewish synagogue in North Africa. Accompanied by your guide, you’ll learn about its rich history and cultural significance. Please note that visitors must remove their shoes and cover their heads upon entry; hats and scarves are available on site.
From history to contemporary art, your next stop is DjerbaHood—a stunning open-air art gallery set within a traditional village. More than 100 international artists have transformed the whitewashed walls with vibrant murals, making it one of the island’s most photogenic locations.
By midday, it’s time to indulge in an authentic Djerbian culinary experience. Head to the bustling fish market of Houmt Souk, where you’ll witness the rare and lively auction-style fish sale known as “à la criée.” With your guide’s assistance, select the freshest catch of the day, which will be grilled to perfection and served at a nearby restaurant, accompanied by Tunisian salad and fries.
After lunch, enjoy a leisurely walk through the charming streets of Houmt Souk. Explore the spice market and covered souks, perfect for shopping local products, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs.
In the afternoon, visit Djerba Explore, a unique cultural and leisure complex featuring three main attractions: the museum, the heritage village, and the famous Crocodile Park. Take your time discovering each section at your own pace.
