Prior to our midday meal, we will be visiting Matmata, a distinctive Berber village situated in southern Tunisia. This village is renowned for its ancient, subterranean troglodyte dwellings, which are excavated into the earth around expansive pits to create cool, crater-like courtyards with surrounding rooms. These structures offer natural insulation from the desert heat and gained fame as a filming location for Luke Skywalker home in Star Wars. These unique cave dwellings provide insight into traditional Berber life, with some still occupied, and integrate harmoniously with the stark, lunar landscape.

We will be having lunch at Hôtel Sidi Driss in Matmata, an underground Berber hotel renowned as Luke Skywalker Lars homestead in the original Star Wars film and Attack of the Clones. This establishment features rooms within ancient cave dwellings (troglodyte pits) and a dining area meticulously recreating the movie set kitchen.
